There's a new generation of Mom-and-Pop joints. In this next version, we swap out the grey-haired immigrants with thick European accents for a power food couple, like Isaac Becker and Nancy St. Pierre of 112 Eatery, who have cut their chops in the industry. But the spirit carries on. You're still able to see the owners working their tails off, offering great and attentive service, and you're still able to experience food that has been carefully put on the plate with love and attention. At 112 Eatery, the food embodies the essence of an enterprise owned by people who passionately work it day in and day out: under promise and over deliver. Simply listed as cold cuts w/ pickles on the menu, the plate that arrives is generously piled with imported cured meats, homemade gherkins, and brilliant freshly made mustard. The adroitly termed French cheeseburger comes topped with a creamy, melty chunk of Brie. For $7. Potentially splashier items, like the rib-eye and pork tenderloin, are dressed with flavorful accompaniments, but remain humble in the eyes of the eater. If wait times are any indication, 112's version seems to be working.

An evening out at 112 Eatery can be described as a foodies experience likened to a child's entrance to a fabulous carnival or circus. The restaurant offers a wonderful assortment of (affordable) wines and cocktails. We began with a Vuvare and went on to a Vionier. The appetizers are different than what a person would see elsewhere. Specifically, the Scottaditto is fantastic! I ordered the most fabulous cheeseburger in the city for $9. I made my reservation one month in advance and asked for 7:30 p.m. on a Saturday night. I was told, "Good that you called so far ahead! We have one seating at 5 p.m. and one at 8:30 p.m. Which would you like?" I made the reservation for 8:30 p.m. and stayed until almost midnight--and people were still coming in for dinner. We did not encroach on anyone's reservation. We were told we were fine to stay the evening. Go, enjoy, and order as much as you can on the menu. We ordered 11 items. Everything was wonderful.

Phenomenal! Best restaurant in Minneapolis for the money. Maybe best restaurant overall!! Can't imagine anyone who appreciates food not liking it. Have eaten there 6 times and counting.

Once again, excellent food for reasonable prices. We celebrated our anniversary here. We both love sweetbreads and this restaurant serves a great sweetbreads course, in addition to their wonderful lamb chops, scallops, fois gras, etc.

Fabulous food and fabulous service in a visually interesting space. It is a small space, so it gets a little loud when they are full and conversation gets difficult.

This was my second visit to 112 Eatery and both times the food was great. An interesting selection of choices and all were tasty. I really enjoyed the browned butter tarragon noodles. I found the 112 to be very reasonable for the quality of the food and the ambience.

This was my third visit to this restaurant, although it has been awhile since my last visit. It is still excellent and I will definitely be going back! I ordered the sweetbreads and shared a side of brussel sprouts - both very good. The bartender also mixed a martini for me to my specifications and it was great! We went fairly early to avoid crowds and noise, but it got very crowded even by 6:30. Popular place! Loved it! It is a very good value with lots of variety and choices on the menu.

Superb food! The best scallops (appetizer) we've ever had! Every course was well prepared and scrunptious. Only complaint is the place is so small and noisy. Don't show up early for your table, or there is no place to wait, unless you are fortunate enough to grab one of the six seats at the bar.

Fabulous food. Ambience is busy and fairly noisy. Not what I'd recommend for larger groups or an intimate date. Food is unbelievable. I'm still dreaming about their signature prawns appetizer! The service was impeccable, and made our dinner very special. High quality of food and service made this an excellent value. Food is creative and far above the usual fare. Highly recommended.

We went there after our wedding for dinner with a few friends. Worst service and experience I've ever had in any restaurant. We had to chase down our waiter to order anything. We complained, but nothing was done to correct the situation. We vowed to never return and haven't.

The black gnocchi with calamari sauce was a bit bland. The gnocchi was made from scratch. The berkshire pork with clam cataplana was also fairly disappointing. It was cooked perfectly, but the clam cataplana left little to be desired. Service was above par and the waitress was very attentive. One of the owners stopped by and asked if we enjoyed our meal. I've heard many good things about the 112 Eatery so I'm willing to give it another try.

We really like this restaurant because of the variety of food offered, and also the variation in prices. We can have a wonderful meal here for much less than other restaurants we frequent. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and helpful. The wine and beer list is outstanding.

There's a reason why this restaurant features some of the toughest tables to reserve in town. Great food, well served, and not over-priced. Add in an unpretentious atmosphere and you understand why 112 is my favorite restaurant in the Twin Cities this year.

we had a very nice dinner. Service was very great. We sat upstairs. It was nice but they really need to clean the dirt/dust off the metal beams. When you're upstairs you can really see it. We had a nice time. Good food.

The 112 Eatery rocks! Not only is it a mere four seconds from my office, but it is truly unique to Minneapolis. We have never been less than wow-ed by the food and we have yet to order the fries. Very diverse crowd, great wine list, great value for food and wine.

I wish this fantastic restaurant was a better kept secret. I guess it's testimony to the unquestionably sensational menu and preparation that I usually end up shoulder to shoulder on a bar stool, or by the pots and pans of the open kitchen at this popular local spot. It's hard to notice your surroundings at all when your head is succumbing to the beauty of a bite of food that plays on your tongue like a dream!

Incredible. The food was outstanding: simple, a modern interpretation on classic American flavors. The wine list was extensive, but not daunting, and reasonably-priced. And the service! Oh my, the service was excellent! Our waitress was sharp, knowledgeable, and not at all pretentious. And yes, there are pretentious waitstaff at restaurants with less than half the reason to be. It was fun and a wonderful experience. Go, now.

This was a great adult experience. (We rarely get out without the kids). Not a kid-friendly place, but very warm, hip and eclectic. A nice crowd without needing to be seen. This is the closest we get to a New York style restaurant in the Twin Cities. The fries were fantastic; the hamburger is best left to other joints. But the other dishes we tried--pasta carbonara most notably--were awesome. Excellent unassuming service and a good wine list. Highly recommended!

I enjoyed 112 Eatery a lot overall, but I do have to admit that I would not have rated it "Restaurant of the Year" as it had been rated last year in the press. That said, I felt as though it didn't "wow" me the way I thought it would. In any case the steak tartar was delicious, as was the chocolate pot de creme. The foie gras salad had seared foie gras, which I'm guessing is a new fad, but I don't like that preparation. My friend had the swordfish which was nice and light flavored. Overall good!

We arrived at 5:30 and were able to get a seat at the bar. We ordered the "most" reviewed items such as the Egg Sandwich, Hamburger and Cauliflower fritters. All of them were the best I've ever eaten. I'm going back this week and trying the less reviewed items.

This is the perfect restaurant. Great food, unpretentious setting, approachable owners. It's the kind of place you come for dinner and stay all evening...much to the chagrin of the folks standing out in the cold, hoping a table will open up for them. The good news is the food is just as good at the bar, and its easier to flirt with the owner of the place there! All in - a great value and a great evening out.

Simply amazing! This is easily one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. All of the dishes were exquisitely prepared and presented beautifully. Particular highlights were the lamb scottadito, buttercup squash with maple syrup and Gorgonzola, and the tres leches cake. The service was excellent and unobtrusive. The atmosphere was very comfortable and unpretentious - the food's the star here! We did wait for about 15 minutes past our reservation time for a table but were rewarded for our patience with free drinks.

We dropped after a concert, just past 11 p.m., but the food was excellent as always. We have dined at the 112 Eatery about six times with friends and by ourselves. The 112 Eatery is the only restaurant that has never disappointed us. We like the wine list--there are good choices for under $30. If you want to go during prime dining hours, reserve at least 2-3 weeks in advance. Or go after 10:30 p.m.

The hype (in many recent print reviews) is justified! Really top-notch food, and the fact that 112 stays open late enough to avoid rush hour traffic into downtown is a big plus. The waitstaff seems sincerely proud to be associated with the chef/owner, Isaac.

We got in at 6 p.m. only because a group decided to sit outside--thank goodness! Our meal was fantastic--we had salmon and the pasta with lamb fugo, plus bibb salad, crab salad, a nice bottle of wine and the tres leches cake for dessert. Enjoyed every bite, and all for just under $100 including tip! My dinner companion said, "This feels like New York," and he was right. We'll be back!

This place has a really friendly, cozy, bustling ambiance. Even though they are quite busy and popular, I have never felt ignored when I have eaten there, and I was a woman eating alone. This place has serious, honest, creative, from-scratch food. This is quite unusual and highly valued in my opinion. They have a number of dishes in the $7-9 range that are larger than tapas but smaller than a full entree. Great lamb chops, escarole, salads, fries. Everything is great.

Cozy, and loud, our table was waiting with fennel marinated olives and spiced candied almonds. Good thing we called ahead. You can choose from cold cuts and pickles (hard salami, prosciutto, sweet and spicy pickles, hot mustard and baguette) to nori encrusted steak. The sides range from asparagus with chevre to french fries. The food was very nice, although it seemed to be lacking anything that really put it over the top. The wait staff is very attentive, even if ours didn't know wine.

I love the noise and bustle of the place. It's so small, and the intimacy is great. We ate at the bar, and the bartender was terrific. Talked to us, and treated us right. Bibb salad was perfect with a not-too-tart vinegrette, but the scallops with mushroom appetizer was spectacular. Earthy and sweet at the same time. The tagiatelle with chantrelles and pasta with lamb sugo were perfectly complemented with a very reasonably priced Rioja. In fact, the whole menu is extremely reasonable. Great food and a good value. What more could you ask for?

My second visit and I can't stop recommending this place. Excellent small dishes. The attention to detail is really wonderful. Incredible service and care. The cauliflower fritters and the french fries bring vegetables into the spotlight. My only criticism is on hot nights the air conditioning is inadequate. If it weren't for the enthusiasm of the staff and the extraordinary food we may have walked out because it was so hot. If only it were easier to get reservations.

The best new chef-owned restaurant downtown & one of the few that will seat you & feed you until 1:00am. The food is imaginative without forgetting that you are there to enjoy eating. The ambiance is cool with the feel of Manhattan or San Francisco with artists & food service professionals dropping in for their late night dining pleasure. The service is professional, but not stuffy or snobish, with thoughtful recommendations, rather than the usual speel of pushed items. A rare experience.
